Title: Hurricane Season: Prepare, Protect, and Stay Informed!

Hello, fellow Gulf Coast Texas residents! As the calendar inches closer to June 1, we find ourselves on the brink of another hurricane season. As an insurance agent with McCorkle Insurance, I am here to stress the importance of being prepared for potential storms and ensuring your insurance policies are up to date. With the 2023 hurricane season approaching, it’s time to take action and safeguard what matters most to you – your family, your home, and your peace of mind.

  1. Be Prepared with Essential Supplies:

Living in a hurricane-prone region, it is crucial to have a well-stocked emergency kit. Gather supplies such as non-perishable food, bottled water, batteries, flashlights, a first-aid kit, a battery-powered radio, and necessary medications. Remember to include important documents like insurance policies, identification papers, and proof of ownership for valuable possessions.

  1. Understand Your Current Insurance Policy:

Reviewing your insurance coverage is vital before hurricane season begins. Take the time to understand your policy limits, deductibles, and exclusions. Reach out to your insurance agent, like myself, to discuss any concerns or questions you may have. Don’t wait until a storm is looming overhead to discover gaps in your coverage.

  1. Flood Insurance: Plan Ahead for the 30-Day Waiting Period:

Flooding can be a significant threat during hurricanes, and standard homeowners’ insurance policies typically do not cover flood damage. If you don’t already have flood insurance, now is the time to consider obtaining it. However, it’s important to note that flood insurance policies have a mandatory 30-day waiting period before they take effect. Waiting until a storm is imminent will leave you vulnerable. Act now to ensure your coverage is in place well ahead of time.

  1. Paying Flood Insurance Premiums in Full:

When purchasing flood insurance, it’s essential to remember that the premiums must be paid in full before the policy becomes active. Plan accordingly to avoid any delays or lapses in coverage. Speak with your insurance agent to understand the payment options available and find a solution that suits your financial situation.

  1. Stay Informed and Follow Official Guidelines:

Throughout the hurricane season, stay tuned to reliable sources of information, such as the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and local authorities. Follow evacuation orders, if necessary, and be aware of emergency shelters in your area. Stay informed about hurricane tracking, preparedness tips, and safety guidelines issued by trusted organizations. Your safety and the safety of your loved ones should always be the top priority.

Remember, preparing for hurricane season is not just a precaution; it’s a responsibility. By taking proactive measures to secure your home, understand your insurance coverage, and stay informed, you are actively safeguarding your family’s well-being and protecting your assets.

At McCorkle Insurance, we are committed to providing you with the guidance and support you need to navigate the complexities of insurance coverage during hurricane season. Reach out to us today to review your policies, explore additional coverage options, or clarify any doubts you may have. Together, let’s make this hurricane season a time of preparedness and resilience.

Stay safe, Webster Texas, and let’s face this hurricane season with confidence!

Air BNB and the insurance coverage you need

If you’re the proud owner of an Airbnb rental home, you may wonder what type of insurance you need to protect yourself and your property. As a homeowner, it’s important to understand that traditional homeowner’s insurance policies may not cover short-term rental situations like those found on Airbnb. In this blog, we’ll explore the different types of insurance you should consider when renting out your home on Airbnb, and how Jason McCorkle and McCorkle Insurance in Webster, Texas, can help you navigate the complex world of insurance for vacation rentals.

First and foremost, it’s important to understand that Airbnb offers some insurance coverage for hosts. This insurance program is called Host Protection Insurance and it covers hosts for up to $1 million in damages that may be caused by guests while staying in your home. However, it’s important to note that this coverage does not protect your property from damage or theft, nor does it cover personal liability outside of guest-related incidents.

That’s where homeowner’s insurance comes in. Homeowner’s insurance policies generally do not cover damages or liability arising from short-term rentals, which is why it’s important to speak with an insurance agent like Jason McCorkle at McCorkle Insurance in Webster, Texas, to discuss your options for additional coverage.

One option is to add a rider to your existing homeowner’s insurance policy that specifically covers short-term rental activity. This can provide additional protection for your property, such as covering damage caused by guests, theft, and vandalism. It can also provide liability coverage for incidents that may occur while guests are staying in your home.

Another option is to purchase a standalone short-term rental insurance policy. These policies are specifically designed for vacation rental properties and typically provide comprehensive coverage for property damage, liability, theft, and loss of income due to damage or unforeseen circumstances that prevent you from renting out your property. Working with an experienced insurance agent like Jason McCorkle can help you identify the policy that best suits your needs.

It’s important to note that different insurance companies have different requirements for short-term rental coverage. Some may require that you notify them before renting out your property on Airbnb, while others may require that you purchase a specific policy. An experienced insurance agent like Jason McCorkle can help you navigate these requirements and ensure that you have the coverage you need to protect yourself and your property.

In conclusion, owning an Airbnb rental home requires specialized insurance coverage to protect your property and personal liability. Adding a rider to your existing homeowner’s insurance policy or purchasing a standalone short-term rental insurance policy are both viable options. Working with an experienced insurance agent like Jason McCorkle at McCorkle Insurance in Webster, Texas, can help you find the best coverage for your needs. Don’t wait until it’s too late to protect yourself and your investment – make sure you have the right insurance coverage in place before you start renting out your home on Airbnb.

Liveaboard Coverage for your boat

Liveaboard coverage is a type of boat insurance that provides protection for individuals who use their boat as their primary residence. This coverage is important for those who live on their boats full-time, as it provides additional protection beyond the typical coverage included in standard boat insurance policies.

Liveaboard coverage typically includes protection for personal property and liability and coverage for damages caused by weather events or other unforeseen circumstances. Additionally, liveaboard coverage may include coverage for medical expenses and emergency services.

It is important to tell your insurance agent if you plan on living on your boat full-time, as this may affect the type of coverage you need and the cost of your policy. Failure to disclose this information could result in your insurance company denying your claim in the event of a loss, as living aboard your boat may be considered a material change in risk that was not disclosed at the time the policy was issued.

One example of an insurance agency that offers liveaboard coverage for boats is McCorkle Insurance, located in Webster Texas, and the Gulf Coast. Jason McCorkle marine speciality of McCorkle Insurance and has over 25 years of experience in the insurance industry. Texas Gulf Coast Boat, Yacht and Sport Fish Insurance – United Marine Insurance, American Modern, Concept, Progressive, Foremost, Yachtinsure

If you’re a boat owner on the Texas Gulf Coast, it’s essential to have adequate insurance coverage for your watercraft. But did you know that insurance companies may have specific requirements for the age of your boat and your experience level as a boater? Here’s what you need to know about Texas Gulf Coast boat insurance.

One requirement that many insurance companies have is that boat surveys must be conducted on vessels older than 3-5 years. Most insurance carriers will not accept a marine survey that is 3-5 years old. A boat survey is a comprehensive inspection of a boat’s condition, including the hull, engines, electrical systems, and safety equipment. The purpose of the survey is to identify any potential safety hazards or issues that could affect the value or safety of the vessel and must be conducted by a NAMS or SAMS-certified surveyor and include in and out-of-water examination.

In addition to requiring boat surveys for newer vessels, insurance companies may also have restrictions on the size of boats that new boat owners can purchase. For example, some insurance companies may require that new boat owners can’t jump in size by more than 10 feet from their previous vessel. This restriction helps ensure that new boat owners have the experience necessary to handle larger boats safely.

Speaking of experience, many insurance companies also require boaters to have a certain level of experience before they can obtain insurance coverage. This requirement is especially true for larger boats, where the risk of damage or injury is higher. Insurance companies may require that boaters have a certain number of years of experience, completed a boating safety course, or hold a specific boating license or certification.

One agency that can help you navigate the requirements for Texas Gulf Coast boat insurance is McCorkle Insurance. McCorkle Insurance is a full-service insurance agency that specializes in marine insurance, including coverage for boats, yachts, and commercial vessels. The agency offers a range of insurance products to suit the needs of boaters of all types, from weekend cruisers to commercial fishing vessels.

Jason McCorkle, the manager of McCorkle Insurance, is an avid boater himself for 30 years. Started out with a 1994 Yamaha Waverunner and now owns a  Formula 350 SS boat that he uses frequently in Clear Lake Texas with friends, the TOPPS group, and The Boat Club. Jason’s personal experience as a boater helps him understand the needs and concerns of other boaters, and he’s dedicated to providing personalized, expert service to his clients. We do several poker runs and boating events each year including Texas Outlaw Challenge, Tickfaw 200, Orange Beach, LOTO, and Key West World Championships

In conclusion, if you’re a boat owner on the Texas Gulf Coast, it’s crucial to have the right insurance coverage for your vessel. Keep in mind that insurance companies may have specific requirements for boat surveys, size restrictions, and experience levels. To ensure that you have the best coverage for your needs, work with an experienced marine insurance agency like McCorkle Insurance. With their help, you can enjoy peace of mind knowing that you and your vessel are protected.   www.insurethisboat.com

A Helping Hand in Houston

Americans love to give and now Taiwanese-Americans in the Bay Area are finding an urgent cause to give to their friends and distant relatives in Taiwan.

Typhoon Morakot devasted the small island nation of Taiwan for a three-day period earlier this August. The local population experienced horrific mudslides, flooding, and more than 400 deaths. The typhoon reached record limits and is considered the worst typhoon to hit the island in 50 years.

The Taiwanese-American Center in San Jose is focused on raising half a million dollars to aid victims of the typhoon, mainly through benefit concerts. Caring for those in need is a universal urge, and their efforts should be applauded. When disaster strikes, people want to know that they can be helped so that life can return to normal. Talk to us, your local agent and ask us about how you can be ready for the next big flood or storm in your area; don’t expect the worst, but do expect quality service and a helping hand when things get rough.

Rare Art Finds Home in Texas

Michelangelo is known to have painted only four oil paintings and now one of them, recently verified, will be on display at the Kimbell Museum of Fort Worth, Texas.

The museum director is calling it “one of the greatest rediscoveries in the history of art.” The painting had previously been discredited by the art world and left in the hands of private collectors until last summer when an art dealer–whose sale price to the museum was not disclosed–brought the piece to New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art and had it examined.

Researchers were able to determine not only the authenticity, but almost the exact age of the painting. Apparently Michelangelo got his start as an art prodigy early, at age 12 or 13. Remember that parents: you may not always appreciate your child’s “creativity,” but someday it might be famous.
